What is a Safety Zone?
A safety zone is a 1,000-foot radius around a designated school building. To maintain each safety zone, Safety Zone Partners will address a comprehensive set of issues that could affect student safety.

Who is involved in the partnership?
The Pittsburgh Safety Zone Partnership is based on the philosophy that the safety of Pittsburgh children is the joint responsibility of Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS), the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania governments, parents, community organizations and corporations.

Explore the interactive Safety Zones map
The interactive map is one way to communicate your concerns to the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Operation Better Block (OBB) is the Safety Zones community partner for the Pilot project. Paper form reports will be collected by OBB. Community leaders, citizens, government officials, and just about anyone who passes-through a neighborhood can use this system. This tool takes the guess-work out of which department or government agency to call when reporting an issue of concern. Information submitted using this system will NOT be directly collected by the City of Pittsburgh. PPS and partner organization Operation Better Block has volunteered to report the information to the City in a timely fashion. To report items directly to the City of Pittsburgh, please call 412-255-CITY. ALWAYS report emergency situations by calling 911 immediately.
